Body painting with clay and other natural pigments existed in most, if not all, tribalist cultures, often worn during ceremonies; it still

survives in this ancient form among the indigenous people of Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific islands and parts of Africa. A semi-permanent form of body painting known as Mehndi, using dyes made of henna (hence also known rather erroneously as "henna tattoo"), was and is still practised in India and the Middle East, especially on brides. Since the late 1990s, Mehndi has become popular amongst young women in the Western world

Since the early 1990s bodypainting has become more widely accepted in the United States, and more and more body artists are beginning to come onto the national community.

Where have all the nipples gone? The idiosyncratic women of New York are becoming veritable cleavage cyborgs, eschewing lace-enhanced, natural, sexy bustlines for formidable foam facades

To the long list of things making New York City more homogenous—funky brownstones razed in preparation for high-rise condos, chain-store franchises displacing neighborhood favorites—add women’s breasts.

Have you noticed? Increasingly, the ladies of this town have been sporting remarkably similar pairs of perfect, pert globes: rounder, higher and larger than ever before. There has been an absence of breast individuality such as lace, seams, overflow, jiggle, signs of gravitational pull and, most notably, nipple.

The flawless orbs that have been parading around the city are achieved by strapping on a “lined,” “T-shirt,” or “contour” bra. These are marketing terms for what is essentially a modern padded bra. This is not the quilted number of years past, but rather a smooth, immaculate device with foam-infused breast cups. Each cup is preformed, creepily having the same shape on or off the body. These lined bras have eased out simple cotton, silk or lace bras, and comprise about 90 to 95 percent of the bras for sale in Victoria’s Secret, the Gap, or any of the mainstream department stores.

“I always try and push them, because it gives a better lift and you don’t see the nipples peeking through,” said Heather, a young lingerie saleswomen in mod makeup, a black mini-dress and furry boots who was working at Saks Fifth Avenue’s lingerie department the other day, holding a hanger with two silky but sturdy cups dangling from straps. Her colleague, Carolina, concurred: “A lot of women have problems with their”—and here her voice dropped to a whisper—“nipples showing.”

Amid the endless racks of protruding breast cups and in the Victoria’s Secret store on lower Fifth Avenue, saleswomen Chrystal Toppin explained: “These bras hide the nipples. It is a trend. A lot of women don’t want to protrude and attract the wrong kind of attention.”

For women who have never particularly noticed or cared if a little nipple shows when a cool breeze passes, or haven’t wanted to mask their natural shape, this trend has made bra-shopping a tedious, expensive affair. And many men are baffled.“It’s absurd!” exclaimed Luca, a handsome Italian mathematician who makes ample time for socializing. “Women here have their breasts on a platter, but then no nipple.” Luca theorized that women in New York City are caught in a negative-reinforcement loop. “Manufactures see that a sizable population want this kind of bra, so now there isn’t anything else to buy. Women have started to believe shop assistants when they suggest hiding the nipple is good.”

It’s not just the camouflage of this crucial bit of tissue that is confounding men, but the illusion of general greater endowment, perhaps unseen since the falsies of the 1950’s, that these underpinnings universally impart. “I’ve been disappointed when I’ve taken one of those bras off,” said Christian, a 45-year-old artist-photographer who declared himself “passionate” about the subject. He went on: “I’ve had to try and hide my look of surprise. It’s not a deal breaker or anything, but the shape, the size, is many times different than one might have anticipated.”

When asked if the lined bra has made the breasts of New York City lose their uniqueness, department store saleswomen chorused no. They countered that each design is cut differently, offering a different breast shape. Yet The Observer’s investigation suggests that the only “difference” amounted to the perfect mounds being pushed higher, lower, inward or outward.

What’s curious is the lack of protest by women who don’t want their breasts to look like everyone else’s. The average bra buyer is seemingly oblivious or indifferent to breast homogenization. “I don’t know, I’ve never really thought about it, “ said one young woman at the Gap, shrugging her shoulders. “I don’t think too many women go around analyzing breasts.”

Some women have even made the conscious choice to wear the lined bra, such as a 38-year-old petite, buxom portfolio strategist who declined to give her name as she works (oh the irony!) in a major asset management company. She unapologetically called her breasts “corporate boobs,” and likened her bras to shields. “I don’t want to walk by the guys in sales and feel vulnerable,” she said with a reluctant laugh. “I think it’s about control. You can’t control your nipples. I hated days when I’d catch a reflection of myself and see my nipples. I felt betrayed.”

Even Calvin Klein, a company known since its inception for sexy, edgy designs and advertising, has its version of the lined bra. In a sleek, lustrous showroom at Calvin Klein Underwear in the garment district, VP of design Mireille Gindrey noted that the company’s best-selling bra in the U.S. has indeed been the smooth, padded cup. “I do think it’s cultural,” said Ms. Gindrey, originally from France, sitting next to Emily Bohonos, director of marketing, who nodded in agreement. “It has to do with modesty and comfort. But you can achieve an ultra-sexy bra, even if it’s simple and smooth.”

Both of the elegantly dressed women animatedly described intriguing global marketing bra trends but grew uncomfortably silent when asked why women in New York, a city that carries a reputation for individuality, seem to be content with generic breasts.

LOS ANGELES — You may think that the highest-paid Fashion supermodels in the world couldn't wish for a better body. But it turns out that even Victoria's Secret's lingerie ladies desire bigger busts — without the scalpel.



Adriana Lima leaves it to her bra to do the trick.

"I like to hook and unhook straps and I can do it 63 ways," Lima told Pop Tarts as we went holiday shopping on Hollywood and Highland. "It's a 100-way bra, so I still need to figure out the rest, but so far it's been pretty fun."

And even though she's a fellow "Angel," Miranda Kerr still needs help getting her top half to "float."

"I'm really into air push-up bras, and you can't tell I'm wearing it," Kerr said. "And this one also has a smaller cup than the majority of the other bras, so you can wear it with low-cut tops … yes, cleavage! And just for the holiday season it has some extra lace and little bows and extra crystals."

So while Kerr insisted that every girl deserves a better boost from Santa Claus this Christmas, the dame from Down Under also says that "below" needs to be just as beautiful.

"Every girl should be treated to matching panties — or hipkinis, these little lace panties. Cute, comfortable, sexy, flirty, romantic, all of the above," she said. "Great for any woman, so boys, make sure you get some for your wives, sisters, girlfriends, lovers."

Hmmm, we wonder if this is a hint to Orlando Bloom (Kerr has been romantically linked to Bloom of late.)

And even though she is married, Marisa Miller still wants her stocking to be "intimate."

"I'll be asking for the Intimacy Slip, and it's good for the woman who doesn't want to show everything, but it's still extremely sexy," she said. "And hubby, if you are listening, I can always do with another 'It Bra.' Since I have so many functional bras, I think it's fun to get something a little sexier for a special occasion, and I like bright colors."

And while bust-boosting is still at the top of Izabel Goulart's wish list, she also wants makeup and a new pooch.

"I want for Christmas lots of lipsticks. I love them. My entire place has lipstick all over the place because I want kiss-ready lips," she said.

"And I want to get a dog for Christmas which I haven't had for so many years. And I'll encourage myself because I travel so much. But, I'm going to make time for a dog, and I really think a dog can change anyone's life."

Heidi Klum German Super Fashion Models Sues By Luxury Jeweler Van Cleef

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Luxury jeweler Van Cleef and Arpels sued German supermodel and television star Heidi Klum's company on Friday, claiming she copied a vintage clover jewelry design.


The suit, filed in Manhattan federal court, seeks more than $25,000 in damages from Klum's company Heidi Klum GmbH and Mouawad USA, another company she has designed jewelry for.


It said both companies attempted to gain benefit from Van Cleef's esteemed reputation by creating and selling a similar clover design from Van Cleef's vintage Alhambra jewelry line.Van Cleef & Arpels Inc is owned by luxury goods group Richemont.
Klum is married to British singer Seal and has three children. She hosts the Bravo reality cable television show "Project Runway," which features aspiring designers vying for a chance to get a start in the fashion world.

She gained fame in the late 1990s modeling lingerie for retailer Victoria's Secret and swimsuits, most notably on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine's popular swimsuit edition.

You see them in London's ritziest hangouts, such as Bungalow 8, Cipriani's and Annabels, hungry eyes piercing through the low lighting as they scope out their next man.

They're the Euro-WAGs, international ex-models teetering on the brink of 40, with sexual CVs that read like the back pages of Paris Match and usually a couple of divorces beneath their D&G chastity belts.

Time, helped by money, has been kind, but these women are impatient to land the grand prize for the next phase of their life: the aged rock star with a house in St Tropez, the financier with a chain of hotels - or, failing that, the French President.


How deliciously predictable it is for the newly divorced Nicolas Sarkozy, 52, to be caught on the arm of 39-year-old Carla Bruni this week at Disneyland Paris. Just as his interest in the exquisitely beautiful model-turned-folk star is all too easily imagined, so is the intrepid Bruni's in Sarko.

Bruni is part of a distinct clan of modern Madame Bovarys who never quite seem to reach the summit of their romantic ambitions.

They want fame, of course, and those who haven't inherited want the wealth - but most importantly they want "the lifestyle": the high-profile friends, the gilt-edged party invitations, the feigned political and artistic interests. Already Bruni has made a none-too-successful recording of herself declaiming poetry, no less.

Euro-WAGs such as Liz Hurley, Elle MacPherson and Caprice will always describe their modelling careers as "digressions", although quite what the main thread is remains to be seen. In their late thirties and early forties, these women are at the peak of their physical beauty - which is to say, just before its collapse.

They keep make-up to a minimum and never wear especially short skirts or display too much cleavage, opting for Prada by day and leopard-print dresses paired with Louboutins at night.

As for the men on their arms, scarcely a Euro-WAG exists without serial swordsmen such as Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and Arpad Busson featuring in their back catalogues. But once these women get to a certain age, their taste in partners mysteriously changes.

Bruni used to be involved with Donald Trump. The Spanish model Inés Sastre did roughly the same circuit before her fling with the admittedly charming but "you'd-have-to-think-of-the-handbags" golfer Colin Montgomerie.

But with their short or medium-term beauty, they are obliged to be long-term strategists, and as such invest as much discipline in the supervision and conservation of their prime assets as a businessman does with his books.

They might have slight weight issues masquerading as wheat or lactose intolerances, they work out religiously, take herbal mood relaxants, but - unlike their footballing counterparts - they avoid alcohol at all costs.

Such discipline has come at the cost of their girlish sensuality, leaving them brittle and insecure, though without the impetuosity that is the enemy of any good business plan. When appearing in the glossies, they gush about their lives at just the right tempo.

"I'm someone who likes the shadows, serenity, tranquillity," pleaded Cécilia Sarkozy - ironically, the epitome of the Euro-WAG and one whose dalliances we shall doubtless soon have laid out in the British press. "I never felt fame or power was important when you are in love," blathered Bruni.

Is there anything wrong with pursuing successful men? No, success has always been sexy. Yet the Euro-WAGs aren't really about sex: they're about an insatiable Becky Sharp-style hunger for power and influence.

Luckily for them, that's also what the men they target are about, too, since they can get the sex anywhere. And so perhaps, in a cynical, self-interested way, there really is a meeting of minds - but they would describe it as an uncontrollable love affair.

Sarkozy's fling with Bruni might not last, and do no more than raise a passing titter.

But he is, after all, a president, with a grand strategy for the renewal of his country that could involve ferocious confrontations with vested interests, not to speak of being one of three Western males with a finger on a nuclear button, and it does nothing for your confidence in his judgment.

The "Jessica Sierra Hardcore" DVD is scheduled to be shipped on Wednesday, January 23rd and will go on sale in stores nationwide on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. In the meantime, it can be pre-ordered for mail or VOD delivery on the website.

The preview website shows "teaser" snippets from the video that catch Sierra driving her car while talking about sex, flashing her breast, in the bathtub, taking a shower, having sex with an unidentified person and starting to comment on other Season Four contestants.

The 22-year-old Fashion Model Sierra was a finalist in the fourth season of AMERICAN IDOL® but was eliminated on March 30, 2005 after she sang "On the Side of Angels." Idol host Simon Cowell said she was one of the strongest vocalists in the competition. She originally started singing in church at the age of three and as a teenager she performed in recitals for both presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

“This title contains the most explicit sex we’ve ever seen in a celebrity video,” said Steven Hirsch, co-chairman of Vivid. “Jessica clearly has more talent than just singing.”

Vivid obtained the Sierra video from an unidentified third party. It contains 72 minutes of footage showing her having hardcore sex with a man believed to be her boyfriend at the time.

It is the latest in a series of videos featuring the sexual exploits of celebrities to be released by Vivid, including the most recent, "Kim Kardashian Superstar," which the Hollywood socialite made three years ago with her then boyfriend, R&B artist Ray J. Others include videos made by Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Tom Sizemore, rock groupie Karrine Steffans aka "Superhead," and Jennifer "Toastee" Toof, competitor from VH1 reality TV shows "Flavor of Love" and "Charm School."

Sierra has been in the news recently following a series of incidents, including an arrest on December 1st in Tampa, Florida on charges of disorderly intoxication, violation of probation and obstruction of justice. She is said to face up to 11 years in jail for the arrest, having been on probation for earlier charges of felony battery and cocaine possession. She has pleaded not guilty to the new charges. A hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20. Previously she was arrested on April 29, 2007 in a Tampa bar, accused of throwing a cocktail glass at another patron's head.

Tila Tequila Miss Her Real Shot at Love?

his week's doubleheader of cable dating shows ended last night with Tila Tequila choosing Bobby (the boy) over Dani (the girl) on the finale of "A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila."

It's a decision that undoubtedly will add fuel to those rumors that Tila was never a bisexual as she claims. But if that's the case, she did a great acting job because she obviously formed a very strong bond with Dani over the course of the show and Dani was pretty broken up after being rejected last night.

In fact, it seemed as if both finalists truly wanted a shot at love with Tila - that they were both wholeheartedly invested in winning their girl's heart. You didn't get that same feeling the night before with Buddah on "I Love New York," and, as a result, Tila's finale had more emotional oomph to it.

For the record, Tila, in a recent interview, said she dated girls exclusively when she was young and didn't "experience a guy" until late in high school.
